Dob:
April 16, 1974, Ottawa
Age:
Do the math.........(the correct answer is 34 now that I just had a birthday last week)
Height:
Tall enough to go on all the cool rides at amusement parks, but not tall enough to play in the NBA.
Best Trick:
When I am in the groove, I can do the Moonwalk almost as well as Michael Jackson. I am also told I have a pretty mean front flip on a wakeboard.
Wakeboard Idol:
admire a lot of riders for a lot of reasons (Rusty for power, Lyman for style, Harf for fluid and solid riding), however I would have to say my wakeboarding "Idol" is Shaun Murray- he always makes wakeboarding look fun!
Favorite Food:
I like a lot of different foods and don't have a favorite, but I have a favorite junk food- salt and vinegar ships (kettle cooked are best).
When did you start wakeboarding and the story behind it.
I first tried wakeboarding when I was 15 and rented an HO Hyperlite (the fist compression molded wakeboard) . At the time I thought my boat was "too slow" and the wakes where "to big" for my level of slalom skiing (probably not though....), so wakeboarding was the perfect solution! I only rode at my cottage on the Big Rideau with friends until I started working at wakeboard shop (Surf Side) where I had the opportunity to meet more local riders and ride on our own boat in town. My involvement in wakeboarding progressed from there and through the years I had the good fortune to meet tons of wakeboarders, many of whom have now become lifelong friends.
Since beginning wakeboarding, I have had the great opportunity to be involved in the sport as a event organizer (organizing the first wakeboard competitions, clinics and demos in the Capital region), a judge and rider at several comps (OWSA and X-cup Series, Wakestock, Nationals...), a sales representative (Hyperlite), and a coach (hosting wakeboard judging clinics and running Good Times Wakeboard School). Now, I am happy to be part of the Hurst Pro Shop Team and to have a new chapter of wakeboarding ahead of us with the potential for even more fun!
What is coming up for you and what tricks do you aspire to learn.
This summer my focus is on becoming consistent on more spins, and adding grabs to as much as I can! Also, I didn't get to complete at all last summer with a busy work schedule and the birth of my daughter, Laena, but I hope to get out to a few comps again this year.
Also, I look forward to learning how to rock the new Hyperlite Wake Skis this year. It should be mayhem!!!
What other sports do you like doing:
I enjoy doing lots of different sports, and am always up to try something new. In the summer when I am not wakeboarding I like to go mountain biking, I go for the occasional slalom pull and play ultimate (the frisbee game, not ultimate fighting). In the winter I ski (I used to snowboard, but I'm a skier now....)
